neurogenesis gliogenesis astroglia - stem cell interaction adhesion neuronal phenotype deteremination implantation studies

The goal of our team is to understand processes underlying
the formation of the neuronal phenotype
.

Toward this goal we focus on the following, closely related topics:
1) neurogenesis - neuronal differentiation of stem cells
2) astroglia - stem cell interactions;
3) adhesive behaviour of neural stem cells
4) the role of positional genes in neural phenotype determination;
5) fate of stem cells in different brain environments

Our team is skilled in cell- and molecular biological techniques as well as in surgical and histological methods. We use different neural stem cell clones and pluripotent cells derived from wild type mouse embryos as in vitro models of neural differentiation and isolate distinct neural cell populations from the embryonic or postnatal brains by flow cytometry. We investigate the cell motility and migratory patterns of developing neural cells by long-term phase-contrast and fluorescent time-lapse microscopy. The adhesive behaviour of stem cells is studied by OWLS (Optical Waveguide Lightmode Spectroscopy). Our most widely studied model is the NE-4C neuroectodermal stem cell line.
