IBRO lecturers' visits to the region
One of the most effective from scientific, social, financial, and even bureaucratic points of view is a visit of a distinguished scientist with lecture, seminar, and visits to laboratories for 2-3 days. It gives to students and young scientists a feeling of real (not virtual) contact with best science, the scientists have an opportunity to communicate, officials react to such visits always positively, cost/effect is much bigger than of a conventional conference or a symposium during which there are too many responsibilities.
We establish a CEERC IBRO lecturer grant for reimbursement of expenses (each grant up to 1,500Eu, depending on real expenses, 6-7 visits per year, total sum per year up to 9,000Eu) for a visit of a distinguished scientist (recent papers by visiting scientist in Nature, Science, Neuron or J. Neuroscience is a requirement for application of the visit organizers from the CEER country).
Application can be made in a form of a letter to CEERC with a short description of a proposed visit. Applications will be evaluated twice a year, in January and June for the nearest 6 months period.
Research visits within the region:
The establishment of collaborations within the region that has resulted from the successful school program as well as the regional workshops is further strengthened by short research visits between collaborating laboratories. These mutual visits allow to learn new techniques and to carry out joint experiments, as well as to write joint papers, grant applications, etc. This initiative was first proposed by our regional committee 5 years ago, and proved to be successful also in other regions. We find it very useful also from an economical point of view, i.e. it is much cheaper to travel and stay in a CEER country than in the USA, provided the technique to be learned is available within the region at sufficiently high standard. The monthly stipend is set to be 500 EURO for short-term (up 3 months) and 300Eu per month for longer visits.
