I graduated from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest with a MSc degree in Biology in 2002. During my undergraduate years I became interested in neurosciences, and as an undergraduate I worked in Tamás Freund's group with Attila Gulyás on hippocampal interneurons. During my PhD years I investigated the presence of the endocannabinoid system in basal ganglia using light and electron microscopy techniques under the supervision of Tamás Freund and István Katona. I defended my PhD in 2007 at School of PhD Studies, JÁNOS SZENTÁGOTHAI NEUROSCIENCES PROGRAM, Semmelweis University. In the same year, I was awarded an EMBO long term fellowship and worked in the research group of Carl Petersen at EPFL, Lausanne, from 2007-2009. In 2010, I moved back to Hungary and continued my research in László Acsády's research group, where I investigated the role of the thalamus in higher cognitive processes. In March 2015, I founded my own research group at the Natural Sciences Research Centre, with the support of the NAP Program. Then, my lab moved on to HUN-REN KOKI in 2022. Our research focuses on the role of thalamic neuronal networks in normal and abnormal cognitive processes.
